The Government of Ecuador has announced a curfew in five provinces, restricting movement during early morning hours from November 1 to November 10, 2026.
The curfew will take effect under Executive Decree 519 and will run daily from midnight to 5:00 a.m. in Guayas, Manabí, Los Ríos, El Oro and Esmeraldas provinces.
The announcement has prompted a security alert advising travellers, including United States citizens, to avoid non-essential travel during the restricted hours and follow instructions issued by Ecuadorian authorities.
The measures will remain in place for 10 days, with residents and visitors expected to observe the restrictions throughout the period.
Travellers with flights scheduled to arrive or depart during curfew hours have been advised to confirm whether they qualify for any exemptions before making their journeys.
They have also been urged to contact their airlines and the relevant Ecuadorian authorities to establish the requirements for travelling to or from airports during the restricted period.
Passengers are advised to carry valid identification and travel documents whenever they are moving during hours covered by the curfew.
These documents should include a valid passport and boarding pass, which may be needed to confirm their travel arrangements to authorities.
The security alert also warns that taxi and rideshare services may be limited during the curfew hours. Travellers have therefore been advised to plan their journeys in advance to avoid difficulties reaching airports or other destinations.
Those who must travel during the restricted period should ensure they understand the rules and any exemptions that may apply to their circumstances.
The curfew announcement comes as the Ecuadorian government introduces measures affecting movement in several parts of the country. However, the advisory did not provide further details on the reasons for the restrictions.
Travellers have been encouraged to monitor official announcements for updates and follow guidance from local authorities throughout the curfew period.
The advisory was shared through the United States government’s official travel and security information channels, which provide updates to American citizens travelling or living abroad.
Visitors planning to travel to Ecuador during the period have been urged to check the latest security information before departure and confirm whether their destinations fall within the five affected provinces.
The curfew is scheduled to begin on Sunday, November 1, and end on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, with restrictions applying every day between midnight and 5:00 a.m.
