Safaricom has extended its Family Share plan to Home Fibre customers in Kisumu, letting households share mobile data or voice minutes with up to five family members. The rollout follows the service’s launch in Nairobi last week. Chief Consumer Business Officer Fawzia Ali says the expansion gives customers greater convenience and value by combining fixed and mobile connectivity.
Family Share allows a household to pool mobile resources under one plan. The Kisumu expansion applies that model to Home Fibre, the company’s home internet product. The service starts at Sh3,749 and offers speeds of 40Mbps alongside either 14GB of mobile data or 750 voice minutes.
Ali says combining fixed and mobile connectivity gives customers greater convenience and value. Bundling home internet with mobile access means one provider and one bill for several connectivity needs. The company argues that this model suits households with multiple devices and users.
The rollout follows the service’s launch in Nairobi last week, as Safaricom begins its nationwide expansion. Starting in major cities allows the company to test demand and refine the offer before a wider rollout. Kisumu is the next market in that sequence.
Households considering the plan will weigh the 40Mbps speed and the choice between data and voice against their own usage. The sharing feature may appeal to families where several members rely on mobile data. Customers who mainly use one device may find a standalone plan simpler.
For the wider market, bundled offers like this can raise the bar for competitors that sell fixed and mobile services separately. Bundling tends to build customer loyalty because switching becomes less convenient. It also shows how telecom firms are looking beyond voice and data to grow revenue.
The next signal will be whether Safaricom reports stronger Home Fibre uptake in Kisumu and extends the plan to other towns. Watch the company’s rollout schedule and any pricing changes as the nationwide expansion proceeds.
