Quickmart plans to distribute approximately KSh4.5 billion in dividends across the 2026 and 2027 financial years as the Kenyan supermarket chain pursues further store expansion and prepares for its proposed Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) listing, balancing shareholder returns with investment in its growing retail network.

The retailer expects to pay shareholders approximately KSh2 billion for the 2026 financial year and KSh2.5 billion for 2027, representing payout ratios of 95.1% and 90% of annual profit after tax, respectively. The proposed distributions are subject to the company's financial performance, available cash and board approval.

The dividend plans form part of Quickmart's proposed transition into a publicly listed company. In September 2026, the retailer announced plans to sell 50% of its issued shares through an offer for sale involving two billion existing shares held by its sole shareholder, Sokoni Retail Kenya Limited.

Quickmart will not issue new shares or receive proceeds from the transaction. Instead, the existing shareholder will sell part of its investment, while the retailer intends to finance its expansion primarily through internally generated cash flows.

The supermarket operates 72 stores across 16 counties and records approximately five million customer transactions monthly. Its Q-Points loyalty programme has approximately 2.5 million members, who accounted for about 74% of sales during the 2025 financial year and the first half of 2026.

For the year ended December 2025, Quickmart reported revenue of KSh50.4 billion and adjusted profit after tax of KSh1.7 billion. Revenue grew at a compound annual growth rate of 18.4% between 2021 and 2025, reflecting the retailer's expanding customer base and store network.

The company is targeting 10 to 15 additional stores annually as it seeks to exceed 100 outlets over the medium term. Its expansion strategy covers urban, peri-urban, regional and coastal markets, supported by improvements in digital operations, delivery partnerships and inventory management.

Quickmart's proposed dividend policy targets a payout ratio of at least 80% of annual profit after tax following listing, with payments made semi-annually. However, the board will consider capital requirements, working capital needs and future investment opportunities before declaring distributions.

The company's ability to maintain dividend payments while expanding its retail footprint will be closely watched by prospective shareholders as it progresses towards its NSE listing.
