Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Dr. Kamau Thugge will hold a post-Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) press briefing online at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, to explain the committee's latest interest rate decision, a day after the MPC meets on Wednesday, October 7, to review the Central Bank Rate (CBR).
The CBR currently stands at 8.75%, a level in place since August 11, and some market commentary ahead of the meeting points to a likely hold, as inflation has climbed to 6.8% while the shilling has stayed stable. The briefing gives Kenyans, borrowers and investors a chance to hear directly from the Governor how the committee weighed rising prices against growth and what it expects ahead.
Inflation is the main pressure point. Annual inflation rose to 6.8% in September from 6.6% in August, driven by higher food and transport costs, and it is closing in on the upper end of the CBK's 2.5% to 7.5% target range. The CBR has been held for three straight meetings after ten consecutive cuts between August 2024 and February 2026.
The press briefing will be streamed through the following channels :
