Police in Nyali, Mombasa County, have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 24-year-old man who was allegedly stabbed during a domestic dispute with his girlfriend at Vescon One Apartments in Kadzandani.
The deceased, identified as Ian Mwendwa Muriithi, was reportedly involved in an altercation with his 23-year-old girlfriend, Joan Murugi, before he was found unconscious near the bathroom door with a stab wound to the left side of his chest.
According to a police report, security guards at the apartment complex were alerted to the disturbance at around 3:00 am. They reportedly responded to the scene and proceeded to the house where the incident had taken place.
Upon arrival, the guards found Muriithi lying near the bathroom entrance with an apparent stab wound. He had already succumbed to his injuries by the time they discovered him.
Police officers were subsequently notified and arrived at the scene to begin preliminary investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Murugi and another suspect have since been arrested in connection with the incident as detectives work to establish what led to the fatal confrontation.
During the investigation, officers recovered a kitchen knife suspected to have been used in the stabbing. The weapon was taken as an exhibit to assist detectives in their efforts to piece together what happened inside the apartment.
The arrests come as investigators seek to establish the events that preceded the altercation and the possible roles played by those involved.
Muriithi’s body was later moved to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken up the matter, with detectives continuing to gather evidence and record statements as they pursue the case.
The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Further details are expected to emerge as detectives establish the circumstances surrounding the 24-year-old’s death.
