A family in Mathare is searching for answers after a youth leader and ODM official, Vincent Isigi, alias “Sultan”, was reportedly abducted by unknown people in a black Toyota Prado while heading home.

Isigi, who is associated with Mlango Kubwa, was reportedly taken on the evening of Tuesday, October 27, 2026, after dropping off his friends on his motorbike.

According to a witness who reported the incident to the Mathare Social Justice Centre (MSJC), residents living along the street where the abduction allegedly happened had noticed a black Toyota Prado parked outside for about 20 minutes. The vehicle was reportedly waiting in the area before Isigi arrived.

At around 10pm, he reportedly reached the location and was bundled into the vehicle by unknown individuals. His motorbike was left behind, with its key still in the ignition.

Also left at the scene were bread and milk that Isigi had reportedly bought for his family. The circumstances surrounding the incident have raised concern among his relatives and members of the local community, particularly because his belongings were not taken.

The following morning, Wednesday, October 28, family members and friends began searching for him, visiting police stations and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices around Obama in an effort to establish his whereabouts.

At Obama Police Station in Saika, officers reportedly informed them that Isigi was not being held at the station. More than 48 hours after the incident, his whereabouts remained unknown, according to the account presented to MSJC.

The Mathare Social Justice Centre said an anonymous client visited its offices on October 28 and reported the alleged abduction. The organisation subsequently documented the matter through its Legal Empowerment Hub.

MSJC said its assessment was that the reported circumstances raised concerns about a suspected enforced disappearance and called for an urgent, coordinated response.

The centre also said it had referred the matter to VOCAL Africa, an organisation with experience in handling cases involving alleged enforced disappearances and related human rights concerns.

VOCAL Africa was in Mathare following up on Isigi's disappearance as efforts to establish his whereabouts continued.

The statement further raised concerns about reports involving two other young people from Mathare, identified as Maximillian Kiarie and Zizou, who were also allegedly abducted and had not been accounted for at the time it was issued.

The centre warned that the reported incidents were creating fear and tension among young people and residents in the community.

Isigi's family and friends are still seeking information about his whereabouts, while questions remain over who took him and where he may have been taken.

The circumstances surrounding the reported abduction have heightened calls for urgent action to establish his whereabouts and ensure his safety.
