Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has been formally welcomed into Edwin Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi Movement, strengthening the political outfit's presence in Western Kenya as preparations for the 2027 General Election gather pace.

Wanyonyi's entry was formalised on Friday, October 30, during the launch of the movement's national headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, where Sifuna welcomed him alongside other political leaders attending the ceremony.

The three-term Westlands legislator is seeking to contest the Bungoma gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, having shifted his political ambitions from Nairobi to his home county.

His alignment with Linda Mwananchi provides him with a political platform as he prepares to challenge other aspirants seeking to succeed Governor Kenneth Lusaka, whose second and final term ends in 2027.

Wanyonyi first declared his intention to contest the Bungoma governorship in July 2025, saying he wanted to tap into the county's economic potential through inclusive leadership, youth empowerment and improved opportunities for residents.

"I have come here as a candidate seeking to run as governor of Bungoma. Bungoma is a very strategic county, the third largest county. The potential in this county is huge and we need to tap it," he said during his declaration.

He explained that his decision followed consultations with residents and political leaders who had encouraged him to return to Bungoma and seek the county's top seat.

His political association with Sifuna had been building for several months, with the Nairobi senator confirming in July 2026 that he had held discussions with Wanyonyi and other politicians interested in elective positions in Bungoma.

Sifuna also expressed confidence that Linda Mwananchi would produce the county's next governor, signalling the movement's intention to compete for elective positions beyond Nairobi.

In September, Wanyonyi publicly reaffirmed his support for Sifuna and maintained that his political decision to work within Linda Mwananchi remained unchanged following speculation about his political direction.

He also urged Bungoma residents to distinguish his personal political position from statements made by other politicians, insisting that he would communicate his political decisions directly.

Wanyonyi's formal welcome on Friday comes amid efforts by Linda Mwananchi to expand its political structures and attract aspirants ahead of the next General Election.

The movement is transitioning from The Equitable Party (TEP), which was acquired as a political vehicle by Sifuna and his allies, and is undertaking a rebranding process to establish its party identity and leadership structures.

Its National Delegates Convention is scheduled for November 13, when delegates are expected to ratify the changes and finalise the party's organisational arrangements.

Wanyonyi's entry also comes as political competition for the Bungoma governorship takes shape, with Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa among the leaders who have expressed interest in the seat.

Barasa is also positioning himself for the 2027 contest, setting the stage for a race that is expected to attract several political figures seeking to lead the county.

With his gubernatorial ambitions now publicly aligned with Linda Mwananchi, Wanyonyi joins a growing group of politicians seeking to use the movement's political platform to pursue elective positions in the next General Election.
