Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana has declared his intention to run for president in the 2027 General Election under the Federal Party of Kenya, the political party he leads.
Godhana made the announcement in Mombasa, where he was attending the seventh edition of the Pwani Innovation Week conference. He said his presidential bid was driven by a desire to transform Kenya and build a united nation founded on equality, fairness and national cohesion.
The retired Major General said he believes he has what it takes to challenge President William Ruto and remove him from power in the 2027 General Election.
He expressed confidence in his ability to offer Kenyans an alternative form of leadership, promising to pursue changes aimed at addressing the country’s challenges and bringing people together regardless of their backgrounds.
Godhana’s announcement adds another name to the list of leaders positioning themselves for the country’s top political seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
The race is expected to attract candidates from different political parties and coalitions seeking to challenge the current administration.
The governor also revealed plans to launch a political coalition in the coming days as part of his preparations for the election.
The planned coalition is expected to provide more details about his political strategy, including possible partnerships with other leaders and parties seeking to form an alternative political force ahead of the polls.
Although Godhana has announced his presidential ambitions, further details about his campaign agenda, proposed policies and potential coalition partners are yet to be made public.
His bid will also depend on his ability to build a strong national support base beyond the coastal region and convince voters that his leadership offers a credible alternative to the current administration.
The 2027 General Election is expected to be a major political contest, with leaders already positioning themselves and exploring alliances as they prepare to seek support from voters across the country.
Godhana’s announcement signals his intention to move from county leadership to the national stage, where he hopes to compete for the presidency and influence Kenya’s political direction.
