President William Ruto has launched the construction of the Sh2.25 billion Rapogi-Kanyawanga Road as he began his development tour of Migori County.
Ruto said the government would pursue equitable development across the country, highlighting investments in roads, electricity, housing, education, health and the sugar sector.
“We will develop this country equally,” the President said.
He said Sh2.3 billion had been allocated for electricity connectivity in Migori this financial year, while Sh28 billion had been set aside for housing projects in the county.
Ruto said the housing programme was also being used to create employment opportunities for young people.
On education, the President said the government had employed 100,000 teachers and introduced a new funding model, while in health, he said the government was working to ensure Kenyans could access medical services with ease.
The President also addressed the sugar sector, saying reforms had improved payments to cane farmers.
He said he would return to Migori next month to pay bonuses to sugarcane farmers.
Ruto further used the tour to defend the broad-based political arrangement, saying it had a clear plan and vision for the country.
He accused opposition formations of lacking an agenda for Kenyans and urged voters not to “gamble” with the country’s future.
“The broad-based formation is the only formation that has a clear plan for this country in all sectors,” he said.
Ruto also accused his political opponents of relying on tribal politics and alleged that they were being sponsored.
His remarks come as he continues his Nyanza tour, where he has combined the launch and inspection of development projects with a political message centred on the broad-based government and national unity.
