Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has condemned the heckling of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka during the launch of the Linda Mwananchi Movement headquarters, describing the incident as an indication of growing political intolerance.

Murkomen also extended an invitation to Kalonzo to join President William Ruto's broad-based government, saying the former Vice President deserved respect because of his experience and contribution to national politics.

Speaking at Ngiito in Amalo, Narok County, where he presided over a women's empowerment event, Murkomen took issue with the conduct of Linda Mwananchi supporters who disrupted Kalonzo's address during Friday's launch.

"Linda Mwananchi has no agenda, no manifesto, and now even no respect for fellow leaders," Murkomen said.

The CS warned that the incident could be an indication of what he described as a culture of political intolerance, cautioning that the country could witness further confrontations as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election.

"You haven't seen a thing. These are masters of political intolerance and violence," he said.

Murkomen maintained that Kalonzo was a distinguished and seasoned politician whose standing in the country's political landscape should command respect regardless of political affiliations.

He further declared that the Wiper leader was welcome in the Kenya Kwanza administration, arguing that his experience and diplomatic credentials would be valued within government.

"Kalonzo Musyoka is welcome in government, where his experience and diplomatic mien will be met with honour and respect," he added.

The Interior CS also called on political leaders across the divide to exercise restraint, saying the government was taking measures to address political violence and ensure a peaceful electoral environment ahead of the next General Election.

Meanwhile, Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has renewed his criticism of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's presidential ambitions, questioning the political forces behind the Linda Mwananchi Movement leader.

Atwoli argued that Sifuna's anticipated presidential candidature could undermine President William Ruto's support in the Western region during the 2027 elections while complicating the community's prospects of producing a presidential candidate in 2032.

Speaking at Kerongo Village in Vihiga County during the burial of long-serving COTU staff member Absolom Karanja, Atwoli said the central question surrounding Sifuna's political ambitions was who was backing his bid.

He suggested that the senator's candidature should be examined within the broader political calculations involving the Luhya community and its future leadership prospects.

Atwoli also announced that the community would hold a major political gathering at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on December 26, 2026, where he and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi would outline what he described as the political direction for the Luhya nation.

The remarks signal growing political differences over the emerging Linda Mwananchi movement, its leadership and the broader realignments taking shape ahead of the 2027 elections, with questions also emerging over the Western region's political positioning beyond the next electoral cycle.
