Kitui County MCA Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka has been charged with stealing 42 mobile phones valued at KSh609,000 from a shop along Luthuli Avenue in Nairobi, with investigators linking him to two other alleged theft incidents involving consignments worth millions of shillings.

Musyoka, who represents Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, where he denied the charge.

According to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the alleged theft occurred on August 5, 2026, when 42 Itel City 200 smartphones belonging to businessman Dahir Adan Mohamud were reportedly stolen from his shop.

Each handset was valued at KSh14,500, bringing the total value of the missing phones to KSh609,000.

The charge sheet identifies the premises as Yare Parcel Office along Luthuli Avenue in Nairobi, where the consignment was allegedly stolen.

The prosecution has also linked Musyoka to two other alleged mobile phone theft incidents in Nairobi in August and September 2026, involving consignments valued at KSh1.8 million and KSh420,000, respectively.

According to the ODPP, investigators estimate the total value of phones allegedly stolen across the three incidents at KSh4,906,050. However, the individual values disclosed for the three consignments add up to KSh2,829,000, leaving a discrepancy of KSh2,077,050 that requires clarification from the investigation documents.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had earlier reported that detectives from Kamukunji Police Station arrested Musyoka along Mfangano Street on October 22, 2026, following investigations into three reported incidents.

Investigators said CCTV footage played a significant role in identifying him in connection with the reported thefts.

The prosecution opposed his release on bail, citing concerns over his alleged previous failure to attend court proceedings in a separate stealing case before the Makadara Law Courts.

According to the prosecution, Musyoka had previously been released on bond but failed to attend court, resulting in an arrest warrant being issued against him. The earlier case was subsequently reinstated after being withdrawn.

The prosecution argued that his previous court absences raised concerns that he could abscond if released.

Separately, investigators have sought 15 days to detain the MCA to complete their inquiries, including recording witness statements, conducting forensic analysis of CCTV footage and pursuing suspected accomplices.

Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo ordered that Musyoka be remanded at Kamukunji Police Station pending a further hearing on November 5, 2026.

The court is expected to consider the prosecution’s application opposing his release on bail alongside the request for additional detention as investigations continue.
