Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has signalled his readiness to take over from President William Ruto after the completion of his two-term constitutional limit, should Kenya Kwanza retain power in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Kigoro, Maragua, after inspecting works on the Mbombo-Gwa Thamaki Road, Kindiki urged residents to avoid unnecessary political divisions as the country heads towards the next election.
The Deputy President suggested that if Ruto secures re-election in 2027, he would complete his final term in 2032, paving the way for a transition within the administration.
Using a football analogy, Kindiki rallied support for Ruto's re-election.
“Tukipatia William Ruto kiti next year, atasimama kura tena... hii mpira ipatiwe Fireman. Ako hapo karibu na goal. Goal haina goalkeeper,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President continued with the football metaphor, suggesting that Ruto would eventually retire after completing his term and that the opportunity for a successor would then arise.
“Tukipatia William Ruto kiti next year atasimama kura tena?... si ataenda retire? Si ataungana na Uhuru Kenyatta aende retire? Si Fireman ako hapo karibu na goal? Afunge, asifunge?” he posed.
Kindiki's remarks come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders within the governing coalition positioning themselves and mobilising support across different regions.
The Deputy President has in recent weeks stepped up his engagements in the Mt Kenya region, where he has met elders, community leaders and residents while promoting government development projects and calls for regional unity.
