Police in Ghana have arrested a 72-year-old man suspected of murdering a couple at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Greater Accra Region, following an alleged financial dispute involving GH¢500,000.

The suspect, identified as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, was arrested on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at his hideout in Tikrom, near Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region.

According to a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service on Monday, November 2, the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation by the Ashanti Regional Police Command after the suspect was wanted in connection with the killings.

The victims were identified as Irene Atuguba, 47, and George Atuguba, 57, who were allegedly murdered at their residence in NTHC Estate, Sakumono.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the killings may have been linked to a financial disagreement between the suspect and George Atuguba.

Police said the suspect had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from George but failed to repay the money, with the disagreement believed to have preceded the fatal incident.

Acting on intelligence, officers traced the suspect to his hideout in Tikrom, where they conducted a raid that led to his arrest.

During the operation, police recovered a Smith & Wesson pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition believed to be connected to the investigations.

The firearm and ammunition have since been secured by police and are being held as exhibits as detectives continue gathering evidence surrounding the killings.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting investigators with inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the two victims.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command said investigations were ongoing, with further inquiries expected to establish the full circumstances of the incident and determine the suspect's possible involvement.

The arrest marks a major development in the investigation, which began after the killing of the couple at their home in the Greater Accra Region.

The Ghana police are urging the residents to report any unusual happenings to them which will help curb crime in the area.
