Michael Moragia Nyachae, son of former Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae, has been charged with allegedly stealing Sh1.2 million belonging to Sansora Group Limited.
Nyachae is accused of stealing Sh1,226,036 on diverse dates between March 28, 2019, and September 28, 2021, in Kisii County.
The charge sheet states that the alleged offence was committed contrary to Section 268(1), as read with Section 275 of the Penal Code.
Nyachae appeared before Magistrate Caroline Nyaguthie and pleaded not guilty.
Through his lawyers, Nyachae asked the court to grant him bail, urging the magistrate to exercise discretion in his favour.
His lawyers told the court that Nyachae comes from a distinguished family and argued that the case was a “smoke without fire.”
The defence further told the court that Sansora Group Limited, the company named in the charge sheet, is a family company.
After considering the circumstances of the case, the court granted Nyachae a bond of Sh200,000 or cash bail of Sh50,000.
The case will be mentioned on September 29 for pre-trial directions.
