Authorities have recovered a dismembered female body following an ongoing search operation, with the National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) saying investigations are nearing a breakthrough.
NDMU Director Dr Duncan Ochieng confirmed the recovery, noting that the body had been severely mutilated, making it difficult to establish the identity of the deceased.
He said DNA testing would be conducted to establish the identity and provide confirmation to the family.
Ochieng urged Kenyans to remain patient as the search and identification process continues, indicating that investigators were approximately 85 per cent close to completing their work.
"We are closing in at 85 per cent. We are urging Kenyans to be patient as we continue with the process," he said.
According to the officials, the body was recovered after a section of a wall collapsed on it, leaving it cut into two parts.
The recovery forms part of an ongoing operation to trace other possible victims, with authorities maintaining that the search has not yet been concluded.
Otieno, who was also involved in the operation, said teams were still searching for other missing individuals, adding that efforts would continue until the exercise was completed.
Nairobi North Regional Commissioner Simon Osumba confirmed that the family had been informed about the recovery and that the remains had been transferred to the City Mortuary.
Osumba said the relevant authorities had taken the necessary steps to ensure the family was notified as the identification process gets underway.
The transfer of the remains to the mortuary will allow for further examination and the collection of samples needed for DNA analysis.
Authorities have not yet established the identity of the deceased, with DNA results expected to provide clarity on whether the recovered remains belong to any of the individuals being sought.
The recovery comes amid heightened efforts by emergency response teams and security agencies to establish the whereabouts of those still missing.
Officials have appealed to the public to avoid speculation as the operation continues, assuring families that efforts to locate the remaining victims are ongoing.
The authorities have also called for patience as forensic examinations and search operations proceed, with the identification of the recovered body remaining a key priority.
