Nairobi residents in areas affected by the recent water shortage will gradually resume receiving normal supply following the completion of emergency repairs on a major pipeline serving parts of the city.

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) announced that repair works on the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete pipeline had been completed, allowing water production and transmission to resume.

In a public notice, the company said the restoration process was already underway, with water being distributed to affected areas in line with the Equitable Water Distribution Schedule.

However, residents have been cautioned that the return of normal supply may take time as the transmission and distribution network gradually stabilises.

NCWSC explained that although water production and transmission had resumed, pressure would need time to build up before supply reaches all parts of the affected areas.

The company noted that residents in elevated locations and areas situated at the far ends of the distribution network could experience delays compared to other neighbourhoods due to the time required for water to reach these locations.

The emergency repairs were undertaken by the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) on the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete pipeline, which is an important part of the water transmission network serving Nairobi.

The completion of the works marks a key step towards restoring supply to households and businesses that have experienced interruptions during the repair period.

Despite the resumption of transmission, the company warned that the restoration exercise would be gradual as the distribution system works towards achieving stable pressure across the network.

NCWSC has appealed to customers to remain patient as technicians continue working towards stabilising the system and ensuring that water reaches all affected neighbourhoods.

Residents have also been urged to use the available water sparingly during the restoration period to avoid unnecessary wastage as supply gradually returns.

The company further explained that water distribution would continue according to the Equitable Water Distribution Schedule, meaning different areas may receive supply at different times as the system stabilises.

Customers who continue experiencing water shortages or require clarification on the restoration process have been advised to contact the company's customer care team through its toll-free number, 0800 724 366.

The utility assured customers that efforts were underway to restore normal supply across the affected areas following the successful completion of the emergency repair works.

For households and businesses that have endured days of interrupted supply, the resumption of water transmission offers relief, although residents in some locations may have to wait longer before normal pressure is fully restored.
