A visit to a detained boyfriend turned into a trip to police custody for a 26-year-old woman after officers at Buruburu Police Station allegedly discovered bhang hidden inside a loaf of bread.
Bernice Achieng had reportedly arrived at the station to visit her boyfriend and asked officers to deliver the loaf to him.
However, the unsealed package raised suspicion, prompting a search that uncovered five rolls of bhang and a matchbox concealed inside the bread.
A further search of Achieng's jacket allegedly revealed seven more rolls, bringing the total recovered to 12.
Achieng remains in custody, with the exhibits secured, pending arraignment.
Meanwhile, in Thika, a suspected drug peddler learned that trying to outrun a police roadblock can come with an unexpected speed bump.
Police say the suspect, identified as John Mwangi, alias “Bombay,” was riding a motorcycle with a female passenger through Kairi, Thika West, when the two encountered a roadblock.
The rider allegedly accelerated to escape but lost control near Ree Supermarket after misjudging a speed bump, causing the motorcycle to crash.
His female passenger reportedly disappeared into the crowd, leaving Mwangi to face the music.
A search of the motorcycle allegedly led to the recovery of 300 rolls of bhang and an additional three kilograms wrapped in yellow polythene and strapped to the seat.
Mwangi was arrested and is being held at Kimuchu Police Station pending processing and arraignment.
