The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has criticised retired President Uhuru Kenyatta over his remarks that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga won the 2022 presidential election.
In a statement dated September 22, 2026, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan accused the former president of refusing to accept President William Ruto's victory and claimed Uhuru was still struggling with the outcome of the 2022 election.
Hassan dismissed Uhuru's assertion that Raila won the election, maintaining that President Ruto won the contest decisively and would secure another victory in the 2027 General Election.
The UDA official further accused the retired president of engaging in what he termed unconstitutional efforts to undermine the will of Kenyans before, during and after the 2022 election.
Hassan cited alleged disappearances of Kenyans who were reportedly committed to UDA, threats against then-IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati and what he described as the collapse of the August 15, 2022, election results announcement process.
The Secretary General also credited President Ruto with Uhuru Kenyatta's victories in the 2013 and 2017 presidential elections, arguing that Ruto's role as Uhuru's running mate was instrumental to the two wins.
He accused Uhuru of abandoning his former deputy during his second term and claimed the former president was still affected by the loss of power in 2022.
Hassan's statement comes amid renewed political debate over the 2022 presidential election and the political contest ahead of the 2027 General Election.
