Three people have died after consuming alcohol in Kimende Town, Lari Constituency, Kiambu County, while two others are receiving treatment in critical condition.
Three additional victims were admitted to Kimende Hospital, with two later transferred to Naivasha Hospital for specialised care after reportedly suffering alcohol poisoning.
The owners of the entertainment joint where the alcohol was consumed have distanced themselves from the incident, as investigations continue into the suspected adulteration of the alcohol.
Authorities are also expected to scrutinise bars and shops selling alcoholic beverages in the area.
Locals have urged the national government to intensify the crackdown on illicit alcohol and take action to protect residents.
