Two people have been confirmed dead following a fuel tanker explosion after an accident on Thursday night near Paul Boit High School in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County, along the Eldoret–Webuye Highway.
The two are believed to have died while attempting to siphon fuel from the tanker after it was involved in the accident.
Fourteen other victims suffered serious burn injuries and are fighting for their lives at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they were taken for specialised treatment.
Rescuers and security officers faced difficulties evacuating people from the scene due to the intense fire and subsequent explosion.
