Three people, including a boda boda rider and two passengers, have been killed in a grisly road accident involving a tanker at Tindinyo area along the Kapsabet–Chavakali Road in Nandi County.

The three victims died on the spot after the driver of the tanker reportedly lost control and rammed into their motorcycle in a collision that has once again raised concerns over road safety, particularly involving heavy commercial vehicles.

According to preliminary reports, the tanker was travelling from Chavakali towards Kapsabet when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off its course and collide with the motorcycle carrying the three people.

The impact of the collision was fatal, leaving the boda boda rider and both pillion passengers dead at the scene.

Nandi County Police Commander Samuel Mukuusi confirmed the incident, saying police officers had visited the scene and commenced investigations to establish the exact circumstances that led to the crash.

Mukuusi expressed concern over the continued loss of lives through road accidents, urging motorists to exercise caution and strictly observe traffic regulations to avoid preventable tragedies.

He particularly called on drivers operating heavy commercial vehicles, including tankers and trucks, to maintain proper control of their vehicles, observe speed limits and remain vigilant while using public roads.

The police commander further warned that reckless driving and disregard for traffic rules not only endanger the lives of motorists but also expose other vulnerable road users, including pedestrians and motorcycle operators, to serious risks.

He appealed to all road users to exercise responsibility and prioritize safety, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance, especially along busy highways where motorcycles, private vehicles and heavy commercial transport share the same roads.

The latest accident adds to concerns over the safety of boda boda operators and their passengers, who remain particularly vulnerable in collisions involving larger vehicles.

Motorcycle operators are often exposed to greater risks due to the lack of physical protection compared to occupants of cars and other enclosed vehicles.

Police said investigations into the Tindinyo accident were ongoing, with officers working to establish the circumstances surrounding the tanker driver's loss of control.

The bodies of the three victims were taken to the mortuary pending further procedures.
