Three men have been sentenced to between seven and eight years in prison after a Kajiado court convicted them of illegally possessing 41.75 kilograms of ivory valued at Sh1.8 million.
Kajiado Principal Magistrate Edgar Kagoni sentenced Daniel Musyoka and Peter Sironka to seven years in prison each, while Joseph Musau was handed an eight-year jail term.
The three were arrested on May 18, 2025, by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers in Ilbisil town while they were transporting the ivory, according to the charges presented before the court.
They were subsequently charged with illegal possession of wildlife trophies, with the prosecution presenting the recovered ivory as evidence in the case.
The court found the three guilty of the offence after considering the evidence presented during the proceedings. The ivory involved in the case was valued at Sh1.8 million.
Musyoka, Sironka and Musau have been given 14 days within which to appeal against their convictions and sentences.
The three will serve their prison terms at Kajiado Town Prison unless the sentences are overturned or otherwise varied through the appeal process.
The case comes as Kenya continues to enforce laws against illegal possession and trafficking of wildlife trophies, with KWS officers involved in investigations and arrests linked to wildlife crimes.
