At least 32 people have been killed after a Nigerian military aircraft crashed into a swamp in Ondo State.

The aircraft, carrying 25 passengers and seven crew members, was travelling from Benin City to Lagos when it disappeared from radar before crashing near a naval base in Igbokoda.

The plane was later found submerged in water, with rescuers recovering parts of the wreckage from the site.

Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has declared three days of national mourning and ordered flags to be flown at half-mast across the country.

Tinubu has also directed the Nigerian Air Force to conduct a thorough investigation to establish what caused the crash.

The identities of the victims are yet to be made public as authorities first seek to notify their families.
