Grief has engulfed Gem Yala in Siaya County after three children died in a house fire in Mahoma Village, Siriwo, Monday evening.
Acting area Chief Dedan Ogol said the fire broke out after a gas cylinder exploded, causing flames to spread rapidly and engulf the entire house.
Ogol said neighbours arrived at the scene after the fire had already intensified, making it impossible to rescue the children who were trapped inside.
The children’s parents were reportedly away at the time of the incident.
Neighbours tried to put out the fire but were unable to save the house or the property inside.
The children’s bodies were burnt beyond recognition and have since been moved as investigations continue to establish the exact cause of the fire.
