Learning was disrupted early Monday at St Augustine Nasira Mixed Secondary School in Matayos Constituency, Busia County, after students protested the transfer of their principal, Benson Chazima.
The students demonstrated inside and outside the school, calling for the principal to remain in office, citing confidence in his leadership and performance.
Security officers intervened to contain the situation and reportedly fired shots to disperse the protesting students. The students later calmed down after Principal Chazima arrived and addressed them.
Chazima spoke about the challenges he has faced, alleging that some members of the school’s board had worked against him.
Some parents also supported the principal, who was promoted from deputy principal two months ago, and called for him to continue leading the school.
The students later returned to their classrooms, as education officials are expected to lead a meeting to address the issue.
