Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has claimed that his scheduled appearance at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Karen Campus was cancelled at short notice.
Sifuna said he had been invited by the student leadership to attend the inaugural Law, Policy and Governance Forum but was denied access to the institution after the administration cancelled the event.
“We came to JKUAT Karen on the invitation of the student leadership for their Inaugural Law, Policy and Governance forum but the Administration has abruptly ‘cancelled’ the event and denied us access to the institution,” Sifuna said in a post on social media.
He described the decision as “totally uncalled for” but did not provide details on why the administration cancelled the forum.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta's aide Pauline Njoroge also reacted to the incident, criticising the government and claiming the cancellation could influence students' political views.
“Now these students will vote for Sifuna to a man. Even those who may not have planned to vote now have a reason to,” Njoroge said in a separate social media post.
There was no immediate response from the JKUAT administration explaining the circumstances surrounding the cancellation.
