The secretariat of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Dr Oburu Oginga has dismissed as false and malicious reports circulating on social media regarding his health and wellbeing.

In an official statement dated October 6, 2026, the Office of the Party Leader condemned the claims, accusing social media user Maverick Aoko of spreading unfounded information and misleading the public about the veteran politician’s condition.

The secretariat assured Kenyans, ODM members and residents of Siaya County that Oburu was well, safe and in good spirits.

It said the rumours emerged as Oburu was preparing his official speech for the handover ceremony of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi.

The statement acknowledged that Oburu had been advised by his doctors to take a forced rest and limit strenuous physical engagements but maintained that he remained mentally alert, fully updated and actively involved in key party and national affairs.

The secretariat warned against the misuse of social media platforms to spread misinformation, saying such actions could cause unnecessary distress to families and members of the public.

It urged Kenyans and the media to disregard sensational claims circulated by bloggers and instead rely on official communication channels for accurate information.

The office further disclosed that it was engaging the party leadership to pursue legal action over the matter, warning those responsible for cyberbullying and deliberate misinformation to cease the alleged conduct.

The statement was issued by the Dr Oburu Oginga Secretariat under the Office of the Party Leader.
