Residents in several parts of Nairobi are set to experience water supply interruptions following a planned shutdown of the Karimenu Transmission Pipeline to facilitate critical maintenance works.

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) announced that the shutdown, being undertaken by the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA), will begin at 3:00am on Thursday, November 5, 2026, and end at 8:00am on Friday, November 6, 2026.

In a public notice shared on Thursday, November 5, Nairobi Water said the interruption would affect several residential areas across Nairobi City County, urging customers to make necessary arrangements as the utility works towards restoring normal water supply.

Among the affected areas are Kasarani, Mwiki, Clay City, Ruai, Njiru and their surrounding neighbourhoods.

Residents of Roysambu, Zimmerman, Kahawa Barracks and Kenyatta University (KU), together with neighbouring areas, will also experience the interruption.

Other affected locations include the entire Kayole area, Komarock, Soweto, Matopeni and their environs.

The planned shutdown is intended to allow AWWDA to undertake critical tie-in works on the Karimenu Transmission Pipeline, an important infrastructure project serving water distribution systems.

The interruption is expected to inconvenience households, businesses, institutions and other water consumers within the affected areas, particularly those who depend on regular water supply for their daily activities.

Nairobi Water has consequently urged residents in the affected neighbourhoods to use the water currently available sparingly as the shutdown takes effect.

The company also apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused, assuring them that efforts would be made to restore normal water supply once the scheduled works are completed.

“ We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers and urge them to use available water sparingly as we work towards supply restoration,” the company stated in the public notice.

Residents have been encouraged to plan ahead by storing sufficient water for essential household needs, including cooking, cleaning and sanitation, before the interruption takes effect.
