Deputy party leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Cleophas Malala has urged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to build political alliances with opposition leaders from other regions, particularly leaders from the Mt Kenya region, to strengthen his political base ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Kakamega, Malala said votes from a single community would not be enough to mount a serious challenge against President William Ruto in the next election.
“Edwin Sifuna will not become president if only we, the Luhya, vote for him. We must seek support from other communities. I know that anyone who wants to become president of Kenya must go and seek the support of the people of Mt Kenya,” Malala said.
Malala also alleged that the government was facilitating the entry of Ugandan nationals into Kenya and registering them as voters.
He claimed that Ugandans were being brought into different parts of western Kenya, including Busia border point, parts of Teso, Mt Elgon and Trans Nzoia, allegedly for electoral purposes.
“We must ensure that we protect our votes. They have started importing votes from Uganda. In Busia they are bringing Ugandans, in Teso, Mt Elgon and Trans Nzoia, they are bringing in Ugandans,” Malala said.
He did not provide evidence to support the allegations.
Malala warned that the opposition must remain vigilant and protect the integrity of the electoral process as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.
His remarks come amid growing efforts by opposition leaders to build broader political coalitions ahead of the election, with regional support expected to play a significant role in determining the strength of competing political alliances.
