Kibera Soccer Women will be seeking to extend their winning run when they host Elim White Ladies in the seventh round of the FKF Women’s Premier League on Saturday, November 7, as they look to strengthen their challenge for the league title.
The encounter is scheduled for 3pm at Police Sacco Stadium, with Kibera coming into the fixture on the back of consecutive victories that have kept them among the leading sides in the competition.
The Nairobi-based side sit third in the standings with 15 points from six matches, having recorded five wins and one defeat. They are three points behind leaders Ulinzi Starlets and level on points with second-placed Kenya Police Bullets.
Kibera’s latest victory came against Kayole Starlets on November 1, when they secured a 2-0 away win. Christine Joy opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Swaumu Nanjala doubled the advantage in the 71st minute to complete another important result.
That victory followed a similar 2-0 result against Gideon Starlets on October 24, with Noel Amutata and Christine Joy getting on the scoresheet.
Their only defeat this season came against Ulinzi Starlets, who handed them a 6-1 loss on October 3. However, Kibera have since recovered with victories over Vihiga Queens, Gideon Starlets and Kayole Starlets.
The team have scored nine goals and conceded six in their opening six matches, giving them a positive goal difference of three as they seek to remain within reach of the leading positions.
Their opponents, Elim White Ladies, arrive in Nairobi with a contrasting record, having collected only two points from their opening six matches.
The Trans Nzoia-based side are tenth in the 12-team standings and are still searching for their first victory of the campaign. They have suffered four defeats and drawn twice, conceding 16 goals while scoring five.
Elim’s most recent outing ended in a 3-3 draw against Vihiga Queens on October 31, a result that offered some encouragement after successive defeats against Ulinzi Starlets and Mathare United.
Their defensive record will nevertheless be a concern heading into Saturday’s contest, particularly against a Kibera side that has scored in every league match this season.
The fixture presents Kibera with an opportunity to collect three more points and maintain pressure on the teams above them, while Elim will be hoping to register their first win and begin climbing away from the lower end of the table.
A victory would take Kibera Soccer Women to 18 points, putting them level with current leaders Ulinzi Starlets and keeping them firmly in contention for the top position. However, their final standing will also depend on results elsewhere, particularly Ulinzi's meeting with Bungoma Queens and Kenya Police Bullets' clash against Vihiga Queens.
For Elim White Ladies, the match offers another opportunity to secure their first win of the season and move away from the bottom end of the standings, setting up a contest between a side chasing the summit and another desperate to turn its campaign around.
