A mother from Juja in Kiambu County has delivered five babies through a normal birth at Thika Level Five Hospital.

Mercy Kanini welcomed the five babies without undergoing surgery in a delivery attended to by doctors and nurses at the facility.

Kanini and her husband were already parents to two children before the latest delivery. The arrival of the five babies brings the couple’s total number of children to seven.

The mother and her newborns are reported to be doing well and are under the care of the hospital’s medical team.

The delivery marks a significant moment for the family, which has welcomed five new members at the same time.

Quintuplets are five babies born during the same pregnancy. Multiple pregnancies can require close monitoring and specialised medical attention because they may present additional risks to both the mother and babies.

Kanini’s successful delivery adds to the relatively uncommon cases of higher-order multiple births.

The family now begins a new chapter with seven children, following the arrival of the five newborns at Thika Level Five Hospital.
