There was tension at Kayole North AIC church when faithfuls divided over church leadership raising questions of transfer of the pastor for alleged dictatorial tendencies and pride.
They said they have raised complaints to the central committee but they are told he can't be transferred following his large salary scale unlike other branches all over Nairobi
The faithful stayed outside the church for the better part of Sunday morning with the church doors closed and people carrying placards reading 'Rev Makau must go.'
The aggrieved worshippers maintained that the standoff was not merely about an individual pastor but also about the need for transparent leadership and greater involvement of congregants in decisions affecting the church.
They called on the AIC leadership to urgently intervene, warning that continued disagreements could deepen divisions and undermine unity among members if their concerns remained unresolved.
The youthful leaders said they wanted a church environment where members could freely present ideas, participate in development initiatives and contribute to decisions without feeling sidelined.
They argued that access to church resources should be guided by clear procedures and accountability rather than decisions made by a few individuals.
The faithful also want the church to clarify the status of the tribunal’s findings and explain what steps have been taken to implement its recommendations, particularly those relating to transfers.
They appealed to the relevant church authorities to engage all sides in dialogue and provide a lasting solution to the dispute, saying the continued standoff was affecting the congregation’s ability to worship together peacefully.
The protesters maintained that their demands were aimed at securing changes in leadership and administration, insisting that resolving the dispute would be essential to restoring trust and normal operations at the Kayole North branch.
However, the allegations against Reverend Makau remain claims by the protesting congregants and have not been independently established.
The youthful leadership claimed the waters down any Idea they come with by not allowing them access any finances to do anything in the church.
They felt left out and they demanded changes according to the tribunal findings Which recommended some transfers
