Residents of Ikutha town in Kitui South staged demonstrations on Tuesday, blocking the Kibwezi–Kitui road to protest a prolonged power outage that has affected the area for two weeks.
The residents expressed frustration with Kenya Power, calling on the company to urgently restore electricity and address what they described as a prolonged disruption.
They also want Kenya Power to establish a satellite office in Kitui South to make it easier for residents to report power-related issues and seek assistance.
According to the residents, they are often forced to travel or seek help from Kenya Power offices in Kibwezi, Makueni County, whenever they experience power problems.
Ikutha town chairperson John Kithwa has given Kenya Power a two-day ultimatum to respond to their concerns.
Kithwa warned that residents would continue holding daily demonstrations if the company fails to address the outage and respond to their demands.
