Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has congratulated Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on the launch of The Equitable Party, urging Sifuna's supporters to join the new party and back its candidates in the 2027 General Election.

In a statement posted on X, Gachagua described Sifuna as his cousin and said the launch marked the beginning of the senator's journey towards national leadership.

Gachagua encouraged Sifuna to move quickly to popularise TEP and identify strong candidates in his political strongholds to challenge those he accused of supporting President William Ruto's administration.

He also said the emergence of Sifuna's political vehicle was helping to define the journey towards what he termed the formation of the sixth administration.

Gachagua argued that the opposition would need a majority in both Houses of Parliament to advance its legislative agenda, while accusing the current administration of presiding over the country's decline.

He appealed to Sifuna's supporters to formally join TEP and support candidates seeking elective positions under the party.

"Strong political parties are essential for the growth of our democracy as a country," Gachagua said.

He ended his message by declaring that there would be "no escape route" for the current administration, describing the 2027 contest as "WANTAM and Round One" and saying, "Things are boiling very nicely!"
