A family from Malaba South in Teso North, Busia County, is mourning two relatives who died in a boat accident near Fort Jesus in Mombasa on Saturday.
Ken Barasa, 39, who had announced his intention to contest for the Malaba South MCA seat, died alongside his younger sister, Cynthia Barasa, 32, after their boat was hit by strong waves.
According to family spokesperson Benard Caxstone, Ken’s wife and their young child survived the accident.
The two siblings were among those on the boat when it was hit by the waves, leading to the fatal accident.
Caxstone described the deaths as a major blow to the family, saying Ken was an important source of support for them.
His death has left the family mourning not only his loss but also the political ambitions he had hoped to pursue.
The family is expected to continue with funeral arrangements as relatives and friends come to terms with the deaths of the two siblings.
