Former Chief Justice David Maraga is mourning the death of his sister, Sabina Kemunto Otiambo, who has passed away at the age of 107.
The family announced her death while describing Sabina as a beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother whose life was marked by strength, wisdom and devotion to her family.
Sabina was the wife of the late Raphael Otiambo Nyangena and a sister to Maraga and James Ochengo. She was also sister to the late Onduko, Ongondi, Barake, Nyanduko, Okongo and Kemuma.
Her family said her legacy will live on through her children, Grace Moraa Ochoi, David Nyangau, Simon Monari, Eunice Kemuma, Job Miranga and Florence Nyanchama.
She was also a mother to the late Peterson Nyambane and Kamanda.
Sabina was blessed with 53 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, giving her the opportunity to witness her family grow across several generations.
The family will celebrate her life during a funeral service to be held at her home in Nyairobi Village, Kipkelion, Kericho County, on Friday, October 9 2026.
The family expressed gratitude for Sabina’s long life and asked relatives, friends and well-wishers to continue supporting them through prayers, love and comfort as they mourn the family matriarch.
She will be laid to rest at the same home immediately after the funeral service
