Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has officially changed its name to The Ukombozi Alliance (TUA) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The coalition announced the change, saying it was part of efforts to give the political outfit a new identity while maintaining its commitment to Kenyans.
It added that the alliance would remain a home for Kenyans who believe the country can be “freed from the burden of the Ruto regime, rebuilt and made to work for the mwananchi again.”
The rebranding follows earlier remarks by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who said the coalition was planning to adopt a new name as it prepares for the 2027 polls.
The move is also aimed at bringing more opposition parties under one political umbrella as they seek to strengthen their position ahead of the next General Election.
Azimio la Umoja was formed ahead of the 2022 General Election under the leadership of Raila Odinga, with retired President Uhuru Kenyatta serving as its chairman. The coalition and its leaders have since continued to criticise President William Ruto’s administration over various political and governance issues.
Attention now turns to how the newly named Ukombozi Alliance will organise itself and whether opposition parties will agree on a joint presidential candidate for the August 2027 election.
