The death toll from the fuel tanker explosion in Turbo,Uasin Gishu County has hit 3.

Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) CEO Dr Philip Kirwa has confirmed that 22 survivors of Thursday night’s fuel tanker explosion near Paul Boit High School along the Eldoret-Webuye Highway have been admitted at the facility.

Dr Kirwa said seven of the survivors are in critical condition after sustaining burns covering between 40 and 50 per cent of their bodies.

He said the seven are expected to require intensive care services later in the day.

Some of the victims are currently intubated after losing the ability to breathe on their own, while four others who are breathing independently are being closely monitored.

Dr Kirwa said the hospital is also expecting more victims to be brought in for treatment.

The victims are believed to have been attempting to siphon fuel from the tanker after it was involved in an accident when the explosion occurred.
