A middle-aged woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of burning her co-wife, Afline Anyango, with a corrosive substance suspected to be acid.
Margaret Atieno was convicted of attempted murder and causing grievous harm, contrary to Sections 220 and 234 of the Penal Code.
Rongo Law Courts Principal Magistrate Chrisphine Oruo, in his judgment, said the prosecution presented sufficient evidence linking Atieno to the offences.
The magistrate said he relied on the testimony of the complainant and other witnesses, as well as additional evidence presented before the court, in reaching the verdict.
The court established that the incident occurred on November 25, 2024, in Saria area, Awendo Sub-County, Migori County.
Atieno has 14 days to appeal the judgment.
Reacting to the sentence, Anyango welcomed the court’s decision, saying she had waited for justice since the incident occurred in 2024.
