Wiper Patriotic Front chairman Jamleck Kamau has clarified that the October 1 meeting between party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama was convened by Wiper officials as part of efforts to strengthen the party and consolidate its support base in Lower Eastern.
Kamau said the meeting was held at his Lavington residence and was attended by Kalonzo, Muthama, Kema Kilonzo, Mohamed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, Dambuki and himself.
He dismissed speculation that Muthama had been sent by the government to negotiate with Kalonzo, saying the discussions centred on efforts to bring the former senator back into the Wiper fold and strengthen Kalonzo’s bid for the presidency in the 2027 elections.
According to Kamau, Wiper has been engaging Muthama for several months as part of its efforts to rebuild and consolidate its support in Lower Eastern.
He added that the party is also in talks with other government officials whom he claimed are considering leaving the Kenya Kwanza administration. Kamau declined to name the officials but predicted that more individuals would leave government and join what he described as a united alternative political formation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kamau also rejected suggestions that he could facilitate a political deal between Kalonzo and the government. He said he had previously turned down approaches to join the UDA-led government and accused the administration of poor governance, corruption and human rights abuses.
The remarks confirm that Wiper is actively seeking to bring Muthama back into its ranks while reaching out to other government-linked figures as the party seeks to consolidate support for Kalonzo ahead of the 2027 elections.
