The World Health Organisation (WHO) has urged countries around the world not to impose travel or trade restrictions on Kenya, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo following the reported Ebola-related death in Kenya on Tuesday.
In a post on X, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the organisation was continuing to support the three countries in efforts to contain the spread of the deadly disease.
“We call for the removal of any restrictions against these countries as we continue to monitor the situation in the affected countries,” Ghebreyesus said.
According to the WHO Director-General, Kenya reported a patient with Ebola who was a Kenyan national living in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He said the patient fell ill while in the DRC, where he received treatment before travelling to Nairobi through Kampala, Uganda.
Ghebreyesus said the patient later died on Monday.
