National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has presented the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (E.G.H.) award to Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Opiyo Wandayi, in recognition of his distinguished service during his tenure as Leader of the Minority Party in the National Assembly.
In a statement, Wetang’ula said he had the honour of presenting the award to Wandayi on behalf of the National Assembly.
“The national honours E.G.H. and M.G.H. were earlier conferred upon him by H.E. President William Ruto,” Wetang’ula said.
Wandayi previously served as the Leader of the Minority Party in the National Assembly, where he played a key role in parliamentary leadership and oversight.
Wetang’ula said Wandayi’s steadfast leadership, commitment to democratic ideals and dedication to public service remained exemplary and continued to inspire many.
The Speaker said the presentation of the honour was a privilege and an opportunity for Parliament to recognise Wandayi’s contribution to public service.
Wandayi currently serves as Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, having transitioned from parliamentary leadership to the Executive.
His current docket oversees two critical sectors of Kenya’s economy, with energy playing a central role in industrialisation, investment and economic development.
The national honours awarded to Wandayi recognise his contribution to public service and leadership.
The Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya is among the country’s highest national honours and is conferred in recognition of distinguished service to the nation.
Wetang’ula’s presentation of the E.G.H. award comes as Wandayi continues to serve in the Cabinet, following his years in Parliament where he represented Ugunja Constituency.
The Speaker reiterated that Wandayi’s record of leadership and commitment to democratic ideals remained worthy of recognition, describing it as an example of dedication to public service.
The ceremony also underscored the role of Parliament in recognising and celebrating the contribution of its members and leaders to national service.
Wetang’ula said it was a privilege to present the honour to Wandayi on behalf of the National Assembly and to acknowledge his years of service to the country.
