The United States and Kenya are seeking to strengthen law enforcement cooperation, with police training, election security and the fight against transnational crime among the issues discussed during a meeting between senior security officials in Nairobi on Friday, October 9.
Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja received a delegation from the US Embassy led by Todd Wilcox, the Assistant Secretary of State for Diplomatic Security, at his office at Jogoo House ‘A’.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the discussions covered training and capacity building, election security, counter-terrorism, drug trafficking and other transnational crimes.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the two sides to discuss areas of mutual interest in policing and security, although the NPS did not disclose specific agreements or new initiatives arising from the engagement.
Wilcox commended Kenyan police officers for their role in providing security to the US Embassy, acknowledging their contribution to protecting the diplomatic mission.
In response, Kanja thanked the US government for its continued support and reaffirmed the National Police Service's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United States in law enforcement.
The delegation also included Scott Kim, the Director of Regional Security and Corynn Stratton, the Senior Regional Security Officer.
The meeting comes amid broader security cooperation between Kenya and the United States, particularly in addressing threats that cross national borders.
Kenya and the United States continue to work together to combat terrorism, drug trafficking and other transnational crimes. Their partnership also covers police training, capacity building and information sharing to improve coordination between law enforcement agencies.
The latest meeting reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to addressing shared security challenges, including election preparedness. The National Police Service pledged to maintain engagement with the US government on law enforcement priorities, with continued dialogue expected to support joint efforts to tackle cross-border threats and strengthen regional stability.
