Two suspected armed robbers have been arrested following a midnight intelligence-led operation in Nairobi’s Chokaa area, which also led to the recovery of a pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition.

The operation was conducted by detectives from Buruburu Police Station following intelligence linking the suspects to a series of robbery incidents within the capital.

Detectives first arrested Michael Osman Okanda in Chokaa over his alleged involvement in robbery.

During interrogation, Okanda reportedly led officers to the residence of his alleged accomplice, Brian Mbugua Ndungu, alias Mwarabu, in Baraka, Mowlem, in an attempt to facilitate his arrest.

However, Mwarabu was not at home when detectives arrived.

A subsequent search of the premises uncovered a Canik pistol hidden inside a jacket hanging in a wardrobe. The firearm was fitted with a magazine containing 11 rounds of ammunition.

Detectives also recovered assorted documents bearing Mwarabu’s personal details, further strengthening investigations into his suspected involvement in criminal activities.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers were subsequently called in to process and document the scene, while detectives intensified efforts to track down the second suspect.

Investigations established that Mwarabu worked as a boda boda rider within Nairobi’s Central Business District, operating along the CBD-Dagoretti route.

Detectives further established that he routinely returned to his rented residence during the morning hours, prompting officers to lay an ambush in anticipation of his return.

Their efforts paid off when Mwarabu rode into the waiting officers’ dragnet aboard a red Boxer motorcycle, registration number KMHA 890H, and was arrested.

The motorcycle, which detectives suspect may have been used in the commission of criminal activities, was detained as an exhibit.

Both suspects are currently in police custody undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.

Meanwhile, detectives are continuing with investigations to retrace the suspects’ movements and establish whether they are connected to other armed robberies and criminal incidents reported in Nairobi.

The recovery of the firearm is expected to form a key part of the ongoing investigations as police intensify operations targeting suspected armed criminal gangs operating within the capital.
