Traffic on Mtwapa Bridge in Kilifi County was disrupted on Tuesday afternoon when a trailer caught fire, leading to the temporary closure of the busy B8 Road. The incident forced some passengers in public service vehicles to cross on foot due to the heavy traffic jam that ensued.
Motorists traveling through Mtwapa and Shanzu faced significant delays as traffic built up while efforts were made to manage the burning trailer. Firefighters took a considerable amount of time to arrive at the scene, raising concerns among commuters as the fire continued to blaze.
The incident caused panic among road users, and the cause of the fire remains unclear. In a separate incident in Kilifi town, a small car caught fire outside the Imarika Building. Fortunately, security guards and passersby were able to extinguish the blaze in time, preventing further damage.
