Property of unknown value was destroyed after a fierce fire razed down a dormitory at Tengecha Boys Senior School in Bureti Constituency on Sunday evening.

More than 200 students housed in the multi-storey dormitory were left without accommodation after the inferno completely destroyed the facility, with the affected learners facing a night in the cold.

The cause of the fire had not been established by the time of going to press.

However, sources within the school said a group of Form Three students had expressed dissatisfaction with a joint examination scheduled to begin this week, raising concerns that the discontent could have been linked to the incident. The allegation had not been independently verified.

The fire was reportedly discovered by students who were relaxing within the school compound after they noticed thick smoke billowing from the dormitory. They raised the alarm, prompting students and members of staff to mobilise and attempt to contain the flames.

Their efforts were, however, overwhelmed by the intensity of the fire, which was fuelled by students' personal belongings, including bedding, amid windy conditions.

All students were reportedly accounted for and moved to classrooms as the dormitory continued to burn.

By the time of going to press, the fire was still raging, with no fire brigade having arrived at the school to assist in containing the blaze.
