Detectives in Embu have launched investigations into the violent disruption of a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates’ meeting at Nembure Grounds, with two suspects already arrested as the crackdown on those behind the chaos intensifies.
The unrest, which occurred during a meeting presided over by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and attended by senior national and county leaders, left one person dead and several police officers injured.
Several vehicles were also torched as groups of youths engaged security officers in running battles before calm was restored.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says two suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the incident, while detectives continue to pursue other individuals believed to have been involved in the violence.
The DCI has warned that political differences must not be used as a licence for lawlessness, stressing that no grievance, political affiliation or disagreement places anyone above the law.
The agency says those found responsible for attacking others, torching vehicles, destroying property, barricading public roads or assaulting police officers will be arrested and prosecuted.
