Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has announced a three-day water supply interruption affecting several residential estates, roads, hospitals, businesses and public institutions across Nairobi following an emergency shutdown of the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete pipeline for repair works.

In a public notice, the company said the shutdown, being undertaken by the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA), will begin on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. and end on Thursday, October 29, at 11:59 p.m.

The interruption is expected to affect a wide range of neighbourhoods across the city, including Riverside, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Ngong Road, Kibera, Jamhuri, Upper Hill, Lang’ata, Southlands, Nairobi West, Madaraka, Hima Gardens and Karen.

Other affected areas include Parklands, Westlands, Spring Valley, Runda, Gigiri, Lower Kabete and parts of Waiyaki Way, with residents and businesses in the listed locations expected to experience reduced or interrupted water supply during the repair period.

The shutdown will also affect several key institutions and facilities, including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Forces Memorial Hospital, Nairobi Hospital, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United States Embassy and the International School.

Additional areas expected to experience the interruption include parts of Mbagathi Way, Ngumo, Dagoretti, Limuru Road, Ring Road Parklands, Sports Road, General Mathenge and Kabarsiran, as well as surrounding neighbourhoods served by the affected pipeline.

Nairobi City Water Managing Director Martin Nang’ole has appealed to customers in the affected areas to conserve the water currently available to them and use it sparingly throughout the shutdown period.

Residents have been encouraged to plan their household water needs in advance, while businesses, hospitals and other institutions have been urged to make appropriate arrangements to minimise disruptions to their operations.

The company said the interruption was necessary to facilitate emergency repair works on the pipeline, apologising to customers for the inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption.

Customers have been advised to manage their available water supplies carefully until the repair works are completed and normal distribution resumes.
