Several people have been arrested after violence erupted at a public meeting presided over by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in Nembure, Embu County.
According to National Police Service spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, one person was fatally injured during the chaos after a group attempted to storm the meeting.
Police officers repulsed the group and arrested several suspects at the scene, while the Deputy President was safely evacuated.
Six vehicles were torched and several other people injured in the incident.
The National Police Service says investigations are underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident and identify all those involved.
