President William Ruto has pledged to address the university lecturers’ strike, which is currently underway, saying the government will take steps to ensure their grievances are addressed.
Speaking at State House, Mombasa, Ruto said the government recognises the important role lecturers play in educating students and preparing professionals for the country.
He said some of the lecturers’ grievances predate his administration but maintained that his government would work with stakeholders to find a solution to the dispute.
Ruto also pledged to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking, saying security agencies will be equipped with additional capacity to tackle the trade.
The President further urged Kenyans receiving title deeds in the Coast region and across the country to use the land for the benefit of themselves and their families instead of selling it.
He said the title deeds should enable citizens to own and develop their land and create long-term benefits rather than be used for short-term gains through sales.
Ruto said the government will continue addressing challenges facing residents of the Coast region while strengthening security and promoting responsible use of the country’s resources.
